JDM History: Mazda MX-5 Miata

By: G.S.

The Mazda Miata has a history of being a feminine car driven by mainly hair dressers. In actuality it is one of the best handling, light weight roadster that you can buy for a modest price.\

Over the years it has gotten a reputation as being a girl's car. A car that no male would dare to drive or be seen in, unless they want people to question their sexuality. And by looking at it, it makes sense, it looks cute and it's a convertible, two things that are usually wanted by girls that just turn 16 years of age. A car that the valley girls of California. Or at least that is the stereotypical driver that has arisen.  Though having an image like that, you have to wonder why a grown male, would ever drive one?

It's due to the fact that Mazda decided to create a car that was inspired by the small British roadsters of the 60s and 70s. Though with out their mechanical and electrical problems. Those cars were great handling and light weight, just like the Miata that was based on them.

The Miata was power by a 1.6l straight 4 engine when it first came out. It then upgraded to a 1.8l. And the current Miata has a 2.0 L engine, due to its increased weight and size thanks to safety regulations. But it still has kept it's weight down, when compared to the current cars on the market.

The Miata has kept up the legacy of those British roadsters of those earlier years, hell it was better in every way. And it is still available to purchase and is available here in Canada!

JDM GIRLS!

D.A.

So why is it that the JDM subculture attracts so many ladies? We’ll tell you why here, on your favourite JDM blog.

Whether these ladies love JDM cars, drive JDM, love to drift, are looking for deep pockets, or are just for attention, we all know 1 thing.  Babes love JDM’s!  And they both complement each other really nicely.

So before all you dudes out there run out and buy a lowered civic with a B16 super-charged Turbo,  sooped up body, and sweet rims , just to attract the opposite sex, let’s give you a few tips.

   1. Make sure your JDM girl matches your JDM car.  Plain and simple, if not you might be losing 1 of the, soon.

   2. Don’t try to show off, with donuts or drifts.  If you’re a true JDM drifter, babes will come to you.  Besides nobody likes show offs.

  3. Don’t lie about you’re JDM.  Don’t tell her you got 400HP when you really have 287HP, because 1 day some dude with 350HP will pull up and burn you.  Then you’ll look like an @$$.

  4. WHEELS before HEELS. Know who has the priority relationship.  Tell your lady, JDM is always first.  And if she’s hammerd and pukes on your passenger seat.…Kick her out.

    5. “CASH, GAS, or ASS, nobody rides for free.” Live and die by this quote. It can save your life.

This was you’re boy Xinxhau here with another update.  Long live JDM!

JDM History: Nissan Skyline GT-R Part 2

By Eric B.

So after a week, here is the second part of the history of the Nissan Skyline GT-R. Starting with the R33 Skyline GT-R

Ok, the R33 Nissan Skyline GT-R is consider to be the least successful. The main problem people had with it, was it got a lot heavier compared to the out going model. It used the same engine and turbo chargers. But with the added weight, it felt awkward in the corners. It is consider to be the only disappointment in the GT-R line.

The R34 is probably the generation of Skyline GT-R that people think of. It has starred in movies like the Fast and Furious series, and has become a staple of racing games.(apparently Gran Turismo 5 has 10000 different skylines). It has become the dream car to many that have played those racing games or watch the movies that had this car in them. This generation used the RB26DETT engine had a 6 speed manual transmission. This car was designed to shorter then the previous generations. The front overhang was shorten. This was all due to the negative reaction of the R33. Plus  it looks a hell a lot better than the R33, and in my opinion, the R32. This was also the last Skyline to get a GT-R. The GT-R had become a separate model that premiered in 2008.

See ya guys later, when I will talk about a different JDM car's history. Maybe the Supra or the miata. Why don't you leave a comment on  what cars you want featured?

iPod, iPad, iHome, iRoad

Toyota is the newest company to adopt the "i" prefix to keep up with the iTimes. The iRoad made it's first ever appearance at the Geneva Motor Show on March 5th this year. This funky yet futuristic new 3 wheel scooter makes its place in automotive history using "Active Lean Technology" which allows the wheels to move up and down to compensate for corners and turns. Check out the design below.

Looking at this new vehicle the first thing you notice is that it is a one seater, meaning it is primarily for city and urban drives. The iRoad sits the driver in a cockpit so no need for a helmet in this scooter. It offers electrical features such as heating, radio, bluetooth to name a few and offers stability due to the ALT.
The vehicle is powered by 2kW motors and a lithium ion battery. The vehicle is able to travel approximately 50km on its power before it needs to be recharged for an average time of appx. 3 hours.
Overall, here at JDMTyte we think that the iRoad is a great green invention and is deserving of the "i" title. Respond if you agree or disagree and let us know what you think.

JDM History: Nissan Skyline GT-R Part 1

By Eric B.

Ah, the Nissan Skyline GT-R, one of the most iconic 90's cars from Japan. Up there with the Toyota Supra and the Honda/Acura NSX. When people think of Japanese supercars, the Skyline GT-R is usually the one that they think of. Sadly the Skyline GT-R was never sold in North America. Nissan in their infinite wisdom, decided it wasn't worth bringing over here. We did get the Skyline as the Infiniti G35 and G37. But we never got the chance to own the high performance version, The GT-R.

The first time the GT-R package ever graced the Skyline was back in 1969. It only had 160 horsepower and a 5 speed manual transmission. It was also a rear wheel drive car, unlike the later cars which were 4 wheel drive. It was available as a coupe and as a sedan. It was boxy, like most cars from that era, but it still looked good. It had that certain pose that makes you just fall in love with it. It was a very handsome car.

The second generation of the Skyline GT-R was only made for the 1973 model year. It was due to the rising fuel costs and with that the drop in demand in high performance cars. It was also the last GT-R until 1989. It was powered by the 1989 cc I6 S20 engine which was mated to a 5 speed tranny and sent the power to the rear wheels. This was the last GT-R that was rear wheel drive. All over GT-Rs were 4 wheel drive. They sadly only made 197 second gen Skyline GT-Rs.

The 3rd generation Skyline GT-R went on sale in 1989. It was the first GT-R to employ 4 wheel drive, and it was first GT-R in 16 years. It became a big hit. It was nicknamed the Godzilla by an Australian car magazine, Wheels. When it got into racing it won 29 out of 29 races in JTCC(Japanese Touring Car Championship). And with those wins, it inspired Wheels to nickname the car Godzilla. It was powered by 2.6 L RB26DETT I6 and again was mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. It was a site to behold then, and it still is.

Well that is it for part one. I well post about the other 3 GT-Rs later.

Honda is at it again!

Heyo JDM fans, guess what? Honda is making yet another eco friendly vehicle. Big surprise. Now before you leave just because this vehicle uses less gas and therefore less power, take another look. The "Honda N-One" is the new concept for an electric car that uses two powerplants (batteries) that produce 660cc's each. One plant is naturally aspirated and the other turbo charged! This means that the car can and will perform at the levels of most vehicles that use a 1.3L engine. Ontop of the performance of the eco firiendly 5 seater Honda is looking to make the car visually appealing as well, check out a lil' sneak peak below.

Just a bit more on the car
- Comes in 16 original Honda colours including 2 new colours
- Has 3 interior colours
- Offers an innovative "N-line" hatchback
- Offers a DOHC Turbo and CVT
- Has a 20% better furl economy than 2015 standards (10% higher with the turbo)
- This vehicle is more than 90% recyclable!

Now we only provide some of the info check it out for yourself on the Honda sites.

Importing a JDM to Canada.

By Eric B.

In Canada, there is a rule, or should I say law regarding the importation of any vehicle. That rule is, the vehicle needs to be 15 years or older to be allowed to be imported without any problems. It's officially all due to health and safety concerns. But in reality it was so companies like Mercedes Benz could get more money from us, cause before the law, a lot of people were importing cheap cars from Europe and Asia. In Europe at the time, you could buy a Mercedes Benz for let's say 10 grand. Even with importation charges, the cars that were sold here cost a lot more. Like 2-3 times more. But with that said, the law passed and here we are today. And hey, in the United States, the law is 25 years, with is more ludicrous.

But with a lot of the 90's JDM cars being 15 or over at the time of this writing, we can start importing those sweet, sweet cars. Sweet cars, like the R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R and The Nissan Silva. Cars that we all dream of owning, are in our grasps.

Websites like Goo-net exchange allow the process of finding and importing these cars easier. On their website, you can search for cars that are for sale in Japan. When you decide to buy a car from them, you need to contact them to get it rolling. They will help you set up shipping for your new car. Then when ever if comes to port, you can then drive it home!
